Etna – Gole dell’ Alcantara

The Etna, with its 3329 m, is the highest peak of the Eurasian Plate.
It is an active volcanic complex that offers unique natural landscapes in any season of the year. Its territory has different aspects for morphology and type depending on the altitude. Over 100 m in winter there is snow that often lasts until summer. The snow-covered area can be reached, starting from the south, from Rifugio Sapienza.

From Etna down towards Taormina you can go to the Alcantara Gorges, another unique natural park in its spectacular nature. The peculiarity of these gorges consists of the prism-shaped structures created by a basaltic lava flow. Below, the Alcantara river flows between the lava stone that forms its characteristic bed.
